About The Position

Dr. Mingtao Zhao’s laboratory in the Center for Cardiovascular Research uses patient-derived iPSCs, CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, organoids, and single-cell genomics to study the molecular and genetic mechanisms of cardiovascular development and congenital heart disease for translational applications. The appointment is for a maximum of 7 years. The role involves conducting research, designing experiments, analyzing data, and presenting findings under the mentorship of an established RI principal investigator or Senior Research Scientists.

Requirements

• PhD, MD or equivalent degree (< 3 years after graduation)
• Expertise in cardiac physiology, cardiovascular development, genomics, or organoid biology.
• Research experience from PhD program, required.
• Effective interpersonal skills required in interactions with scientists, physicians, and laboratory colleagues.
• Excellent laboratory technical skills.
• Excellent computer skills.
• Skills in qualitative and quantitative research methods.
• Ability to proactively manage and drive projects.

Nice To Haves

• Additional expertise in bioinformatics
• Additional expertise in CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing
• Additional expertise in tissue engineering

Responsibilities

• Designs experiments, develops protocols, and conducts research under the guidance of a faculty mentor.
• Assists in the training and supervision of technical support staff in performing specific techniques essential to carrying out the research program.
• Records and analyzes data generated by the research study.
• Assists in the development of hypotheses for further investigation from the results of the studies performed.
• Assists with the preparation of scientific and technical papers for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
• Presents findings at local and national research forums.
• Collaborates with other ongoing research efforts either at NCH or at The Ohio State University.
• Works toward research independence, preparing to submit proposals to and obtain funding from external granting agencies.
