About The Position

The Post Doctoral Scholar position is part of the Promoting Academic Workforce Development in Translational Behavioral and Cardio-Metabolic Research (PINNACLE) program, an NHLBI-funded career advancement opportunity at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine. This program provides intensive, didactic, and mentored research training to postdoctoral scholars, particularly Early-Stage Investigators (ESI) and individuals with disabilities, who are interested in careers in cardiometabolic research. The program focuses on six core competencies: conceptual knowledge in translational sciences, communication skills, research skill development, professionalism, leadership and management skills, and responsible conduct of research. The goal is to empower ESI postdocs to conduct cutting-edge research and become innovative leaders in the academic community. The T32 Training and Mentoring program offers a two-year postdoctoral learning experience within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Miami, designed to help participants develop independent academic careers. Mentorship is congruent, matching mentors and mentees based on shared research interests, backgrounds, and specialties. Program objectives include providing fundamental training in behavioral and cardiovascular health research using translational, population health, and health equity methods, establishing strong mentor-mentee partnerships, offering individualized academic coaching, supporting the development of presentations and publications, advising on innovative research ideas, and mentoring postdocs in grant proposal development (e.g., F, K, or R mechanisms).

Requirements

• Doctorate degree in relevant field required
• No previous experience required

• PhD, EdD, MD or equivalent doctoral degree

Responsibilities

• Assists in planning and designing research experiments, establishes priorities, and recommends schedules.
• Presents research findings at local and national scientific conferences.
• Writes technical publications and reports.
• Designs and writes programs to perform analysis and produces written reports on results.
• Collects pilot data to help support new and competing renewal applications.
• Supervises undergraduate and graduate research students and performs literature reviews.
• Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
• Provide fundamental training by interdisciplinary faculty in the area of behavioral and cardiovascular health research using translational, population health, and health equity methods and practices.
• Establish partnerships between mentors (Primary and Peer) and mentees based on mutual research interests and background.
• Provide individualized academic coaching to mentees while developing skills needed to develop independent research career.
• Support mentees in developing and presenting poster and oral presentations.
• Advise in developing ideas for innovative research and peer-reviewed publications.
• Mentor Postdocs while they develop their grant proposal (e.g., F, K, or R mechanisms).
