About The Position

Full-Time Post-doctoral Position McLean Hospital, America’s top ranked freestanding psychiatric hospital, is inviting applications for a postdoctoral fellowship on our Belmont, MA campus. The postdoctoral position will be based within the Treatment & Etiology of Depression in Youth Lab (Director: Christian A. Webb, PhD; https://WebbsLab.com) at McLean Hospital, a Harvard Medical School teaching hospital. The post-doctoral fellow will have the opportunity to work closely with Dr. Webb on NIH-, foundation-, and philanthropy-funded projects focused on smartphone-delivered interventions, using smartphones and wearables (e.g., smartwatches and smart rings) to predict relevant symptom states, and multimodal prediction of future depression risk using AI and machine learning. Salary and recruitment package in accordance with Hospital policies, and a Harvard Medical School (HMS) appointment as a Research Fellow in the Department of Psychiatry will be contingent on meeting the requirements for an HMS appointment and candidate qualifications. The initial appointment will be for two years with the possibility of extension pending satisfactory performance and availability of funding. Submission of career development and other grant funding applications during the appointment is strongly encouraged and will be supported. The post-doctoral fellow will have full access to the diverse research, financial, and career development opportunities offered through both McLean Hospital and Harvard Medical School. The position will provide opportunities to pursue research and interdisciplinary collaborations across Harvard Medical School and the local Boston community. Successful applicants will have access to three research-dedicated human MRI scanners, one animal MRI scanner, two high-density EEG systems, our Institute for Technology in Psychiatry, and will be able to take advantage of the outstanding educational, clinical, and research-related opportunities available at McLean and Harvard Medical School.

Requirements

  • Very strong programming skills in relevant languages (e.g., R, Python)
  • Statistical expertise
  • Relevant past research (passive sensing using smartphones and wearables)
  • Ph.D. in Psychology (with very strong quantitative skills), Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or closely related field
  • Experience with mobile sensing and data collection systems
  • Knowledge of machine learning and data processing techniques
  • Publication record in relevant technical fields
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Background in real-time systems and data processing
  • Excellent organizational skills, oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as within an integrated research team.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and handle fluctuating priorities and deadlines.
  • A high degree of professionalism and attention to detail.

Responsibilities
