About The Position

The Brain Nutrition Lab at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), Harvard is seeking a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in Nutrition and Neurology to accelerate scientific discovery in brain health through nutritional metabolism research. The Lab, led by Dr. Gene Bowman and part of the McCance Center for Brain Health in the Department of Neurology, is committed to maximizing brain health and preventing age-related brain diseases by investigating the impact of nutrition and metabolism on cognition and Alzheimer’s disease pathology. The McCance Center Brain Nutrition Laboratory connects innovation in nutrition science, metabolism, and neurobiology to practical clinical interventions for brain health. Our interdisciplinary team integrates expertise across nutritional neuroscience, genetics, exercise, sleep, data science, epidemiology, and bench research methods to pioneer new approaches for healthy brain aging.

Requirements

  • Doctoral-level training (PhD, MD, ScD, ND or equivalent) in nutrition, neuroscience, nutritional epidemiology, neuroepidemiology, neurology, or nutritional biochemistry/biology, including human investigation experience as evidenced by publications.
  • Evidence of research and publication productivity in peer-reviewed settings, and an aspiration to advance original research on nutritional metabolism impacting cognition and overall brain health.
  • Doctoral degree in relevant areas (nutritional epidemiology, medicine, nutritional biochemistry/biology), with demonstrated research output in human investigations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in research on brain aging, Alzheimer’s or cerebrovascular diseases
  • Independence in longitudinal statistical analysis
  • Success in participant recruitment
  • Early funding accomplishments

Responsibilities

  • Utilize rich datasets including dietary and lifestyle factors, biospecimens (blood, CSF), neuroimaging biomarkers, and post-mortem brain tissue to uncover mechanisms linking diet and metabolism to brain health.
  • Acquire skills in conducting biomarker guided longitudinal analyses of brain health outcomes using advanced methods including disease incidence modeling and dimension reduction on exposure/outcome measures in nutritional neuroscience.
  • Prepare technical reports and manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals and contribute to grant proposals with robust preliminary findings to compete for federal, foundation, and industry funding.

Benefits

  • Consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religious creed, national origin, sex, age, gender identity, disability, sexual orientation, military service, genetic information, and/or other status protected under law.
