About The Position
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UTK invites applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Research position. This role focuses on biological treatment processes, water and wastewater quality, environmental microbiology, and renewable energy. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in environmental engineering/science, with specific expertise in wastewater treatment, data science, and statistics. This is a twelve-month appointment, renewable annually for up to two years based on performance and funding availability. The position is available to start as soon as a suitable candidate is selected.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in environmental Engineering, chemical engineering, or related field.
- Experience with the ability to manage and mentor undergraduates, Masters, or starting doctoral students.
- Strong written and oral communication, management, and team leadership skills.
- Extensive post-graduate preparation in wastewater treatment, metagenomics, metatranscritomics, bioinformatics, statistics, and mathematical process modeling.
- Effective interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work in a team environment with a diverse group of scientific and technical personnel.
Nice To Haves
- Demonstrated experience with Python, R, and other applications.
- Communication skills, in person or over ZOOM/TEAMS, with sponsors and students.
- Strong background in preparing/delivering impromptu project presentations.
- Demonstrated experience in publishing journal papers.
Responsibilities
- Conduct research, perform various tasks associated with contracted research as well as new research initiatives, and disseminate the results via publications.
- Assist the Principal Investigator in preparing presentations, reports, interacting with sponsors in person or via emails, and preparing proposals.
- Ensure a safe laboratory and workspace environment.
- Host tours.
- Mentor students.
- Upkeep equipment.
- Assist in training new users as needed.
- Keep up with documentation of laboratory activities and related data as records.
