About The Position

The Ohio Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) is seeking Post-doctoral Psychology Assistants to join their team. DBH is dedicated to providing hope and services to individuals and families affected by mental health and substance use disorders. With over 2,800 employees across six inpatient behavioral health hospitals, Ohio Pharmacy Services, Ohio's prison systems, and a central office in Columbus, DBH is a significant provider of behavioral healthcare in Ohio. This is a limited-term program designed to grow Ohio's psychologist workforce and improve hospital capacity and patient outcomes, particularly for justice-involved patients. Participants will gain experience in forensic psychology, conduct psychological evaluations, assist in diagnoses and treatment plans, provide clinical interventions, and contribute to hospital initiatives. The program prepares participants for licensure and long-term careers as psychologists. This is an hourly position represented by the Ohio Health Care SEIU/1199 bargaining unit.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in Psychology with psychology pre-doctoral internship must be conferred from an accredited university prior to the start of the post-doctoral fellowship.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct psychological evaluations, including cognitive, personality, and risk assessments.
  • Assist in diagnosing mental health conditions.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans.
  • Provide clinical interventions such as individual and group therapy.
  • Be involved in court-ordered forensic assessments.
  • Observe testimony and provide consultation.
  • Provide umbrella training supervision.
  • Contribute to hospital initiatives aimed at improving patient care and treatment outcomes.
  • Work closely with psychiatrists, social workers, nurses, and other team members to coordinate patient care.
