Post Doctoral Associate

University of Miami•Coral Gables, FL

About The Position

The Department of Chemical, Environmental and Materials Engineering seeks a Post Doctoral Associate to develop and characterize nanoporous materials, including metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), covalent organic frameworks (COFs), and zeolites, for photocatalytic water purification and contaminant removal. The postdoctoral associate will generate preliminary data to support publications and external funding proposals, and will support student research training.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of inorganic/materials synthesis, photocatalysis, and structure-property relationships.
  • Experience with single-crystal and/or powder X-ray diffraction, spectroscopy, adsorption analysis, or electrochemical methods.
  • Strong experimental design, data analysis, scientific writing, collaboration, and student mentoring skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Ph.D. in chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Research experience in MOF or porous material synthesis and characterization.
  • Experience in adsorption, separation, molecular recognition, or photocatalysis.

Responsibilities

  • Design and synthesize MOFs, COFs, zeolites, and other porous materials for photocatalysis.
  • Characterize materials using X-ray diffraction, spectroscopy, adsorption measurements, and other appropriate methods.
  • Plan and execute experiments, analyze data, assess structure-property relationships, and maintain reproducible protocols.
  • Generate preliminary results for external grant proposals and prepare manuscripts, reports, and presentations.
  • Mentor students in experimental techniques, data analysis, and troubleshooting, and collaborate across disciplines.
  • Perform other duties or responsibilities as necessary.
