About The Position

A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is immediately open in the Neuroinformatics lab (dayanlab.web.unc.edu) at the Biomedical Research Imaging Center, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH). We seek a motivated candidate with a strong interest in machine learning and clinical neuroscience. The lab studies resilience and vulnerability in brain aging and dementia, and builds computer-aided methods and tools that could eventually be used in the clinic. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will develop diagnostic and prognostic deep learning models for Alzheimer’s disease, using rich existing multimodal datasets that combine neuroimaging with clinical, biomarker, and other tabular data. Ample training and career development opportunities will be provided, along with opportunities to collaborate with other groups within and outside UNC-CH.

Requirements

• An excellent quantitative background and a track record of first-author publications in peer-reviewed journals
• Experience designing, training, and evaluating deep learning models in Python (PyTorch preferred), beyond applying off-the-shelf pipelines
• Hands-on experience with transformer and/or convolutional architectures on high-dimensional data, ideally medical images such as 3D MRI
• Experience combining imaging and non-imaging data in a single model

Nice To Haves

• Experience with model interpretability, or data harmonization is a plus.
• Interest and experience in clinical neuroscience, particularly Alzheimer’s disease research, is advantageous but not required.
