About The Position

The Biomedical Engineering Department is in search for a Postdoctoral Research Associate. The postdoctoral research associate will be involved in the development and validation of advanced optical instruments, including fundus cameras and related systems for retinal imaging research. The position will include optical design, prototype construction, system integration, software development, laboratory testing, performance characterization, and imaging validation. The selected candidate will have excellent opportunities to collaborate with researchers and clinicians in Biomedical Engineering, Ophthalmology, and Visual Sciences and to receive multidisciplinary training in biomedical optics, ophthalmic imaging, translational research, scientific communication, publication, and grant development.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a closely related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience in optical system design, construction, alignment, integration, and troubleshooting is essential
  • Proficiency in LabVIEW and MATLAB programming for instrument control, data acquisition, image processing, or quantitative analysis is expected
  • Strong experimental, analytical, written, and oral communication skills
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with fundus cameras, retinal imaging, ophthalmic instrumentation, biomedical optical systems, or scientific manuscript and grant preparation is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Design and optimize advanced optical imaging systems for biomedical and ophthalmic applications.
  • Construct, integrate, align, and test optical imaging prototypes.
  • Develop and evaluate fundus imaging systems.
  • Develop instrument-control and image-processing software.
  • Perform system calibration, performance evaluation, data collection, and analysis.
  • Document experimental procedures and results and prepare progress reports.
  • Present technical findings at laboratory meetings and scientific conferences.
  • Contribute to peer-reviewed publications, conference abstracts, technical reports, and grant applications.
  • Collaborate with faculty, clinicians, engineers, research staff, and students on multidisciplinary research projects.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
