About The Position

Haverford College invites applications for our full-time (40 hours per week), fixed-term (2 year), non-exempt, benefits-eligible, Hurford Center for the Arts and Humanities Post-Baccalaureate Fellow opportunity. The Post-Baccalaureate Fellow position has two primary components: 1) Exhibitions Support and Personal Program Development: The Post-Bac Fellow works with the Associate Director, Cantor Fitzgerald Gallery, VCAM (Visual Culture, Arts, and Media), and Campus Exhibitions to facilitate student, staff, and faculty-generated exhibitions in the College’s VCAM facility, the home and programmatic partner of the Hurford Center for the Arts and Humanities. The Fellow meets regularly with students, faculty, and staff to help conceptualize exhibition projects, later helping to install, deinstall, and otherwise facilitate these exhibitions, as well as support the Associate Director with similar work at the Center’s primary exhibition space, the Cantor Fitzgerald Gallery. The Fellow also will receive financial and logistical support from the Hurford Center staff to stage projects that advance their own creative, academic, or professional pursuits. Funding and support will be available during the Fellow’s first year to organize public programs such as workshops, screenings, and other modes of campus engagement. During the second year, the Fellow will receive funding to stage a culminating project in VCAM, which may take the form of an exhibition, public event, or other creative project relevant to their interests. The Post-Bac Fellow will work with Hurford Center staff to develop this project. 2) Hurford Center Staff: The Post-Bac Fellow serves as part of the broader Hurford Center staff, generally assisting the Hurford Center team with event support, as well as attending staff meetings and serving on the Center’s Steering Committee, where they will review student and faculty grant applications. The Post-Bac Fellow also assists Hurford Center staff in mentoring the Center’s Student Advisory Board in reviewing and approving Student Arts Fund grants. This is a two-year, full-time position, upon review by their supervisor at the end of the first year. Since some of the Center’s programming takes place outside of the regular workweek hours (evenings and weekends), the position requires some schedule flexibility. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and will participate in college van certification as part of their role.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree
• An existing creative, artistic, or research practice
• Comprehensive ability to coordinate multiple projects in dynamic group settings
• Ability to establish effective oral and written communication with internal and external stakeholders and constituents
• Adaptable thinker, with a motivation to learn and grow
• Knowledge of MS Office Suite
• Ability to work evening and weekend hours as programmatic needs dictate
• Willingness to complete campus van-certification upon starting role
• Possession of a valid U.S. Drivers’ License and ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Record check

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor’s degree with a focus in the humanities or arts
• Experience engaging with artistic communities
• Experience in an academic/higher education environment or administrative office
• Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite

Responsibilities

• Work closely with HCAH staff in helping implement Hurford Center programs
• Work directly with Associate Director, Cantor Fitzgerald Gallery, VCAM, and Campus Exhibitions to install, deinstall, and otherwise facilitate exhibitions in VCAM Create Spaces
• Meet regularly with students, faculty, and staff to help conceptualize exhibition projects
• Receive funding to stage public programs in their first year and a culminating exhibition/event/project in their second
• Work closely with HCAH staff in helping implement major Hurford Center programs and events such as the Spring Gathering and Block Party
• Assist HCAH Assistant Director in student outreach for HCAH grants and programming as well as summer internships
• Partner with the HCAH Assistant Director to organize the Center’s Philadelphia Artist Workshop Series
• Assist in the facilitation of HCAH Student Arts Fund meetings
