About The Position

The Portfolio Manager Team Lead will report to the assigned Regional President and will work with the Regional Presidents, Commercial Market Executives, and lenders. This role oversees a Portfolio Management Team, aiming to meet and/or exceed assigned volume/production goals while balancing credit risk. The Team Lead directly manages the full cycle of loan requests, assigns tasks, and ensures timely completion. They are responsible for ensuring annual renewals, collection of financial reporting, and covenant tracking are performed accurately and on schedule by the team. A strong understanding of financial and market analysis is crucial for risk assessment and proper credit handling. The role involves identifying, evaluating, and recommending improvements to lending policies and procedures. Additionally, the Team Lead oversees the request of third-party appraisals and due diligence reports, ensuring compliance with bank policy and regulations. They review areas of concern within loans, evaluate solutions, and handle coordination between clients and internal departments for loan approval, closing, and booking. Ensuring loans close in accordance with approval and schedule, and potentially handling closings with clients, are key responsibilities. The role also involves monitoring compliance with financial covenants and reporting requirements, preparing and coordinating Watch List Reports, and participating in Watch List review meetings. The Team Lead directly manages a small portfolio of complex transactions and collaborates with Commercial Banking Executives to manage maturing loans. They identify, troubleshoot, report, and manage delinquent accounts for the team, and generate necessary reports on the team's loan portfolio. Participation in team sales calls, external events, and business development activities is also expected.

Requirements

  • Ability to analyze financial statements, property operating statements, corporate and personal tax returns.
  • Understanding of Commercial Real Estate (CRE) and Commercial & Industrial (C&I) loan structuring processes and regulations associated with CRE and C&I lending.
  • Strong understanding of CRE and C&I loan documentation preferred.
  • Strong understanding of commercial banking ownership structures preferred.
  • Knowledge of Commercial Banking services.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer relations and sales skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate being a self-starter, well-organized, detail-oriented
  • Strong team and personal work ethic.
  • Ability to work well independently, exercise independent, professional judgment, and operate in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Solid understanding of commercial real estate appraisal theory and techniques.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working in a Business or Commercial Banking environment with emphasis on credit and commercial real estate preferred.
  • Prior management experience preferred
  • Prior experience with loan processing or underwriting required.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee a Portfolio Management Team and overall meet and/or exceed the assigned volume/production goals while balancing credit risk
  • Directly manage full cycle of loan requests process, as well as assign and ensure that tasks are completed on schedule for the Team.
  • Ensure annual renewals and the collection of all required financial reporting and covenant tracking within the portfolio is performed timely and accurately by the Team.
  • Be knowledgeable of financial and market analysis information needed to understand the risks and proper handling of credits.
  • Identify, evaluate and recommend changes and improvements to lending policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the requests of all required third party appraisals required and obtain due diligence reports or assignments from other banks, as needed, while ensuring that all comply with bank policy and regulations.
  • Review the identified areas of concerns pertaining to a loan and evaluate solutions to be discussed with the Lender or Commercial Banking Executive.
  • Handle any issues with coordination of information between client and internal departments for the loan approval, closing and booking process.
  • Ensure loans are closed in accordance with approval and schedule and perhaps handle closing with client.
  • Monitor, review and evaluate ongoing compliance with financial covenants and reporting requirements.
  • Prepare and coordinate assignment of Watch List Reports and participate in Watch List review meetings.
  • Directly manage a small portfolio of the most complex/important transactions
  • Ensure collaboration with Commercial Banking Executives to manage maturing loans.
  • Identify and troubleshoot, report and manage activity on delinquent accounts at various intervals for the Team.
  • Generate and provide requested reports as necessary on Team’s loan portfolio
  • Participate in team sales call and attend external events and activities in a business development role as requested.
