About The Position

The Portfolio Manager is responsible for managing an assigned portfolio of insurance clients within Institutional Client Group, including life insurance companies, property & casualty insurers, reinsurers, brokers, and other insurance-related organizations. The role partners closely with Relationship Managers and a Senior Credit Underwriter to support new business origination, expand existing client relationships, perform ongoing portfolio management, and deliver high-quality credit analysis across a diverse set of insurance relationships. This position offers exposure to complex insurance transactions and provides opportunities to develop expertise in underwriting, portfolio management, credit analysis, and client relationship management within a specialized industry vertical. Successful candidates will gain experience supporting both existing client relationships and new business opportunities while working closely with senior banking professionals across the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience.
  • Eight or more years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and underwrite new and existing credit relationships within the insurance sector.
  • Manage an assigned portfolio of insurance client relationships and related credit exposures.
  • Prepare credit approval memoranda, annual reviews, renewals, amendments, and portfolio monitoring deliverables.
  • Evaluate borrower performance, industry trends, capital structures, and key credit risks while making independent credit recommendations.
  • Monitor covenant compliance and ongoing portfolio performance.
  • Support new business origination through financial analysis, due diligence, and transaction evaluation.
  • Partner with Relationship Managers on client and prospect opportunities, including participation in client meetings, industry conferences, and relationship strategy discussions.
  • Develop an understanding of credit structures, credit documentation, and risk mitigation techniques across a variety of insurance-related transactions.
  • Build expertise across insurance subsectors, including life insurance, property & casualty insurance, reinsurance, brokerage, and specialty insurance.
  • Partner closely with Relationship Managers, Credit Risk Managers, Loan Capital Markets, Derivatives, and other stakeholders to support client coverage, evaluate credit opportunities, and deliver effective risk management solutions.
  • Contribute to portfolio strategy, business development initiatives, and ongoing process improvement efforts.
