Requirements

  • 1–2 years of porter and/or dishwasher experience in a café, restaurant, or food service environment.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment with a strong sense of urgency.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and organization.
  • Basic understanding of kitchen sanitation, safety standards, and Department of Health (DOH) guidelines.
  • Ability to maintain an organized and clutter-free dishwashing and kitchen area.
  • Strong work ethic; well-organized, reliable, and focused.
  • Dependable and punctual with a positive, team-oriented attitude.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members and follow instructions.
  • Demonstrates professionalism and respect toward colleagues, managers, and vendors.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs., and stand, bend, and reach for extended periods (up to 8-hour shifts).

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the kitchen area is clean, organized, and maintained, including floors, countertops, and cooking equipment.
  • Efficiently wash, rinse, and sanitize dishes, utensils, and cookware; properly sort and store clean items.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and clutter-free dish area to support smooth kitchen operations.
  • Dispose of waste and recyclables according to established procedures; maintain the cleanliness of waste disposal areas.
  • Assist with cleaning and maintaining kitchen equipment and appliances.
  • Perform routine cleaning tasks such as mopping floors, sanitizing surfaces, and restocking supplies.
  • Support overall kitchen cleanliness to uphold sanitation and hygiene standards in compliance with DOH regulations.
  • Perform light maintenance duties such as replacing light bulbs, tightening fixtures, making minor equipment adjustments, and unclogging drains.
  • Identify and report any larger maintenance or safety concerns to management promptly.
  • Support facility upkeep by ensuring storage areas, hallways, and common spaces are clean, organized, and hazard-free.
  • Performs additional duties as required based on the needs of the operation.
