About The Position

Masonicare Wright Residence (Apartments) in Wallingford, CT is seeking a Porter - Custodian for a Day Shift position, working 24 hours per week. The schedule is typically 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, three days a week, with potential for Saturdays based on coverage needs. This role requires floor care experience and familiarity with operating floor care machines. The Project Housekeeper will maintain departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, including quality assessment, safety, environmental, and infection control standards. They will work from a schedule, potentially leading cleaning crews or assigned projects, and perform general housekeeping duties when not on projects. Responsibilities include waste management (trash, biomedical waste, recyclables), floor stripping and refinishing, carpet extraction, wall and window washing, curtain and drapery handling, and cleaning/repairing patient equipment and furnishings. The role also involves moving furniture and equipment, setting up for events, performing isolation and terminal cleaning, and communicating effectively with residents. Attending meetings and inservices, understanding universal precautions, and performing duties with safety and respect are crucial. The custodian will operate various cleaning machinery and assist other departments as needed.

Requirements

  • High School or GED
  • Must have floor Care experience
  • Familiar with operation of floor care machines

Responsibilities

  • Maintains established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, quality assessment and improvement programs, and safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Works from a schedule that outlines and defines frequency and timing or tasks. Leads works with cleaning crew or assigned projects. Performs duties of housekeeper when not assigned project work.
  • Empties trash, biomedical waste and recyclables and transports to central collection site. Transports from site to compactor/recycling dock. Operates compactor. Packages biomedical waste.
  • Strips and refinishes floors, extracts carpets. Dry mop and wet mop floors.
  • Washes walls and windows. Hangs and removes draperies and cubicle curtains. Washes, repairs beds, wheelchairs, geri chairs and other patient equipment and/or furnishings.
  • Moves, removes, and relocates furniture, furnishings, equipment, etc. as directed. Set-ups for meetings, activities and special programs.
  • Performs isolation and terminal cleaning following prescribed procedures.
  • Communicates effectively and tactfully with residents/patients recognizing their age, needs, abilities and physical condition.
  • Attends department & MHC meetings and inservice programs.
  • Understands and follows universal precautions as it pertains to their department.
  • Performs all duties in a manner that demonstrates safety, respect, care and concern for our residents/patients/clients and staff. Reports to clinical staff any concerns that might warrant attention on behalf of the resident. Maintain a healthy, clean, safe environment for the population of MHC.
  • Operates vacuum cleaners and some mechanical floor/carpet machinery.
  • Removes and hangs window draperies and cubicle curtains.
  • Washes window draperies and cubicle curtains. Washes walls, vents, etc.
  • Assists other MHC Departments as needed.
  • Performs other duties as required.
