About The Position

The Porters, Convention – Banquets Set up is responsible for the setup, servicing and breakdown of all meetings and events. This role involves quickly and efficiently retrieving materials for event setups, displaying proper care and movement of equipment, assisting with inventory control, providing prompt and courteous service to banquet members and guests, maintaining safe and sanitary conditions, safely driving and maintaining vehicles for transporting event materials, demonstrating full knowledge of banquet areas and keeping them stocked, obtaining and maintaining position-specific licensing, and performing other job-related duties as requested. The role also ensures all venues are well-maintained and cleaned prior to and after an event.

Requirements

  • Ability to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English.
  • Polished appearance and demeanor
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to obtain & maintain full knowledge and understanding of company and department rules and regulations, policies and procedures.
  • High School diploma, experience 1-3 years in field or equivalent.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • At least six months of previous experience as a banquet porter in a similar or related field.
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States
  • Must be tolerant to varying conditions of noise level, temperature, illumination and air quality.
  • Prolonged sitting/standing.
  • Bending and reaching
  • Transporting, pushing, pulling, lifting and maneuvering items weighing up to 50 lbs
  • Eye/hand coordination
  • Ability to comply with Policies and Procedures, Job Description, daily memorandums, chemical labels (SDS) and other instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Quickly and efficiently retrieve all materials needed for the setup of special events.
  • Display proper care, movement and storage of all equipment such as tables, chairs and catering equipment (rolling tables).
  • Assist with inventory control of catering equipment and furniture.
  • Provide prompt, courteous service to banquet members and guests while maintaining a friendly and pleasant atmosphere.
  • Maintain safe sanitary conditions in all banquet service areas and for all banquet services equipment.
  • Safely drive and maintain vehicles used for transporting event materials.
  • Demonstrate full knowledge of banquet areas and keep banquet service areas properly stocked.
  • Obtain and maintain position-specific licensing.
  • Use personal device/cellular phone for job related operational tasks, job duties, review of company documents, etc.
  • Perform other job-related duties as requested.
  • Ensure all venues are well-maintained and cleaned prior to and after an event.
