About The Position

Portal, or woodyard, cranes are large outdoor gantry cranes that supply wood to paper and lumber mills. This division of Konecranes focuses exclusively on these specialized and complex cranes that are crucial to the operation of our customer’s processes. This role requires extensive travel throughout the southeast, with occasional travel to the Pacific Northwest and Maine. Must be able to travel for up to two weeks at a time. Requirements

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Minimum two (2) year experience involving electrical troubleshooting and mechanical repair.
  • Prior experience with cranes is required.
  • Must have and maintain a good driving record, including a valid driver's license.
  • Must be willing to work off the ground.
  • Can work varied overtime, as needed by customer, and be able to travel and work out of town.
  • Must be able to frequently lift to 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. on a daily basis.
  • Must be able to lift to 75 lbs. although not on a daily basis.
  • Must be able to lift 100 lbs. on a rare basis.
  • This position requires frequent climbing, balancing, stooping/crouching, and overhead reaching.
  • This position requires occasional pushing, pulling, kneeling, and crawling.
  • This position will be inside approximately 90% of the time and outside approximately 10% of the time.
  • This position will be frequently exposed to heat, cold, noise and heights.
  • This is a safety sensitive position.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in Industrial Electrical and/or Mechanical Technology or related field preferred or equivalent vocational/technical training and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed inspection on portal cranes and hoists at customer locations.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and structural issues on-site.
  • Be able to work independently
  • Manage travel to meet inspection schedule
  • Report findings of inspection to customers via an exit meeting and written reports. Must be able to communicate any defects and there severity in professional manner.
  • Consult with customers on repair and safety issues, offering recommendations for improvement.
  • Document findings and recommend corrective actions, including safety notifications to customers.
  • Produce electronic documentation of inspections using company tools. Basic computer and Microsoft word skills required.
  • Complete service reports and other required documents accurately and promptly.
  • Stay updated on industry codes and regulations (OSHA, ANSI, CMAA, HMI).
  • Maintain company-issued equipment, vehicles, and assets in proper working order.
  • Operate tools, equipment, and vehicles, reporting deficiencies to the supervisor.
  • Follow established safety rules and procedures, including customer guidelines.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
