About The Position

The Portables Production Woodcraft Manager is responsible for overseeing the sanding and changeout production processes for high-quality portable courts, ensuring operations are executed with maximum efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Reporting directly to the Portables Production Director, this role requires the ability to perform hands-on duties as a Portable Production Technician when needed. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership capabilities, a deep understanding of Praters' production standards and processes, and the ability to effectively train and mentor team members within their crew and across the Portables facility.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, Google Suite, and any additional software used
  • Strong people management, leadership, and analytical skills
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively and clearly with employees, vendors, and visitors
  • Must be able to handle multiple projects and demands
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, clean MVR, and be willing to travel
  • Must have a DOT Medical Card or the ability to obtain a medical card

  • 1+ years of experience as a Basketball Flooring Technician or Portables Production Technician

Responsibilities

  • Manage a group of employees assigned to the changeout or sanding process and assign them to bays 1-10. The bay assignments are not permanent and will be adjusted based on the scope of work.
  • Maintain a presence among crew members to increase work efficiency, allow for trainable situations, and eliminate associates from having to locate a manager or supervisor for an immediate need.
  • Coach and train each crew member on the best practices for court installation, takeout, repair, sanding using the big machine, Epoch machine, court life evaluation, etc., and review it with each employee as needed.
  • Manage and maintain the current processes: Changeout - court maintenance checklists, hardware, installs, takeouts, cleaning, stacking, labeling, board repairs, cutting ends, painting and cleaning edges, milinex, banding, packaging, etc.
  • Manage and maintain the current processes: Sanding - vacuum usage, equipment maintenance and cleaning, sawdust disposal, screening, court life evaluations, etc.
  • Meet with assigned bay supervisors and crew members to ensure the scope of work and expectations are outlined for each job assignment.
  • Ensure that all workers follow the procedures for the job, safety, and site cleanliness as specified in the procedural manual.
  • Perform and/or manage the process to ensure that all services performed are of the highest quality possible and are to the customer’s satisfaction.
  • Follow up with crew members by providing additional training and/or discipline if expectations are not met.
  • Enlist the help of experienced management to assist with training as needed.
  • Work with the Warehouse Manager and Inventory Control Coordinator to ensure their projects and bay assignments are properly stocked with materials and staged with the appropriate equipment for the scope of work.
  • Ensure that all services performed are of the highest quality and all jobs are completed on time with proper management of material usage and labor hours.
  • Evaluate employee violations (job quality, attendance, procedure, compliance) and report directly to the Portables Production Director and or HR.
  • Monitor employees’ timecards for punch accuracy and unauthorized overtime.
  • Review and approve timesheets and time-off requests weekly before submitting them to payroll on Monday mornings for processing.
  • Assist with candidate interviews, disciplinary actions, and terminations with the Portable Production Director, COO, and HR assistance.
  • Collaborate daily with the Operations and Logistics Coordinator to ensure all changeout and sanding projects are accurately scheduled and remain on track.
  • Assist and collaborate with other department managers/supervisors during changeover and sanding downtime.
  • Willing to travel occasionally as needed.
  • Participate in the company or external educational opportunities offered to enhance the knowledge, skills, and abilities of members within the department.
  • Weekend work and overtime may be required.
  • Will always conduct himself or herself as a representative of Praters, Inc. and support Praters, Inc.'s missions and goals.
