About The Position

This position plays a key role in supporting campus safety and security through proactive patrol, responsive service, and consistent engagement with the campus community. Operating with a high level of independence, the incumbent exercises sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism while carrying out daily responsibilities under the supervision of a Police Sergeant. The role requires frequent interaction with students, employees, visitors, and local law enforcement partners, demanding strong interpersonal skills and the ability to handle sensitive or confidential matters appropriately. The position is responsible for monitoring and securing campus grounds, facilities, and designated areas—including the pier and training ship—while identifying and addressing safety concerns, policy violations, and potential hazards. The incumbent provides a wide range of services, including safety escorts, event support, customer assistance, report preparation, and parking enforcement. Additional responsibilities include supporting emergency response efforts, assisting with crime prevention initiatives, and maintaining accurate documentation and confidentiality in all aspects of work.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three months of related experience.
  • Ability to attend Police Officers Standards & Training (P.O.S.T.) programs related to public safety support and dispatch activities.
  • Ability to independently make effective decisions and judgments in emergency situations.
  • Ability to follow campus procedures in coordination with university police in the inventory of evidence.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class “C” California Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) to work aboard the training ship.
  • Must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. (sponsorship is not available).
