About The Position

The Pool Operator is responsible for all work involved in the maintenance and repair of MTA’s swimming pool and spa systems.

Requirements

  • Must have knowledge of the operation and maintenance requirements of swimming pools and water features as they affect pumping, filtration and circulation systems
  • Must understand the methods and procedures for conducting chemical tests on pool water and swimming pool chemicals
  • Must have knowledge of HIOSH/OSHA requirements pertaining to personal safety equipment and public swimming pools, potential hazards and safety precautions
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Must be able to read, understand and apply oral and written instructions
  • Must be able to deal tactfully and effectively with vendors, management and staff
  • Must be able to work under minimal supervision
  • Must be able to use discretion and independent judgment
  • Must be able to walk, run, stand, sit, climb, reach, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and/or crawl
  • Must be able to handle/move supplies and equipment up to one hundred (100) pounds.
  • Must be able to provide assistance in the event of an emergency

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of experience maintaining the operation and servicing of large commercial swimming pools preferred
  • Must possess or attain within six (6) months of hire, a Certified Pool Operator certification

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary resource on matters relating to an overall swimming pool program that includes but is not limited to water chemistry, filtration, housekeeping and pump room maintenance
  • Follow schedules for preventive maintenance and repairs of the Association’s swimming pools and spa systems and provides regular reports to management on swimming pool conditions
  • Ensure high levels of safety and health standards in the water chemistry of the pools and spa
  • Transport equipment and materials to assigned job sites and make necessary repairs
  • Repair and remedy any condition that is deemed hazardous and corrects unsafe physical conditions
  • Submit recommendations for contract requirements for jobs beyond the Certified Pool Operator’s capabilities
  • Respond to emergency calls regarding swimming pool or spa systems failures
  • Seek, evaluate and recommend new methods to improve productivity and efficiency in the maintenance and operation of the swimming pools and spa
  • Make recommendations on the purchase of equipment, materials, and supplies
  • Ensure proper maintenance of all tools and equipment
  • Ensure flammable and/or caustic materials are stored in accordance with OSHA and building code requirements
  • Inform appropriate staff of existing pool conditions that may affect pool usage
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for each pool operations function
  • Regular and reliable attendance required
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned
