About The Position

Performs approved laboratory procedures in assigned licensure specialties to meet workload demands and coordinate laboratory resources. Precisely and accurately performs and evaluates technical procedures, using accepted quality-control techniques with manual, semi-automated, or automated methodologies and equipment. The role requires independent work across licensed laboratory areas and adherence to laboratory policies and procedures.

Requirements

Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or bachelor's degree in Biology or Chemistry.
Clinical Lab Technologist license or registration issued by Florida or a compact state.
Certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT).
Must be licensed in three of the five primary specialties: Microbiology, Serology, Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, and Immunohematology.

Responsibilities

Perform work according to established laboratory policies and procedures.
Work independently in all areas covered by the Florida license.
Perform quality control for all tests, evaluate results, and take corrective action before reporting patient results.
Assess specimen integrity and determine whether specimens are appropriate for ordered tests, including identifying QNS, hemolysis, and clotting issues.
Ensure procedures, methodologies, and patient results correlate with age-specific criteria for geriatric, adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients.
Repeat and report panic or critical test results to a licensed caregiver within five minutes of completion.
Perform calibrations and maintenance as required by instrument manufacturers, CLIA, and TJC.
Complete proficiency testing samples within the requested timeframe.
Use LIS and HIS computer systems competently.
Ensure adequate supplies are available and promptly notify the supervisor when supplies are low.
