About The Position

Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director, the Pool & Facilities Maintenance Technician serves as the Lebanon branch's Certified Pool Operator (CPO) and keeps Countryside YMCA's aquatics facilities, which include indoor and outdoor swimming pools and hot tubs, safe, clean, code-compliant, and ready for programming every day. This role ensures pool and hot tub operations remain in full compliance with Ohio Department of Health codes and YMCA of the USA safety standards, and supports the branch's mission to provide a safe and welcoming environment for members and program participants. The technician owns the mechanical, chemical, and safety side of pool operations: circulation and filtration systems, water chemistry, hot tub/spa units, deck equipment, and the preventive maintenance schedule that keeps small issues from becoming closures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least two years of experience in pool maintenance, mechanical systems, plumbing, electrical work, or HVAC preferred.
  • Successful completion of required background screening and YMCA abuse-prevention training.
  • Current Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification or ability to obtain it within 60 days of hire.
  • Working knowledge of water chemistry, filtration, pool safety, and applicable Ohio and local health department requirements.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and basic electrical issues and safely use hand and power tools.
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification or ability to obtain both within 30 days of hire.
  • Strong recordkeeping, time management, communication, and problem-solving skills; ability to work independently and accept direction.
  • Ability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and occasional after-hours responses as operational needs require.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and frequently bend, kneel, stoop, reach, and climb ladders.
  • Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds, including chemical containers, parts, and equipment.
  • Work in pump and chemical rooms, humid indoor pool areas, and outdoor heat; use required personal protective equipment and follow chemical safety procedures.
  • Must be able to meet the physical and emotional demands of the position, with reasonable accommodations as appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Test and adjust pool and hot tub water chemistry; monitor spa temperature and circulation; document testing and chemical treatments according to applicable health department requirements.
  • Clean and sanitize pools, hot tubs, decks, and related areas; coordinate cleaning needs with aquatics and facilities staff.
  • Operate, inspect, troubleshoot, and maintain pumps, filters, heaters, feeders, controllers, and spa components; perform repairs within training and authority and refer specialized work to qualified vendors.
  • Maintain a preventive maintenance schedule, equipment records, service logs, and inspection-ready documentation for the health department, YMCA, and internal reviews.
  • Inspect drains, ladders, decks, signage, safety equipment, ADA lifts, lane lines, diving boards, and other deck equipment; promptly correct or report hazards, including entrapment risks.
  • Safely handle, store, and dispose of pool chemicals; maintain safety data sheets and track and replenish chemical and maintenance supplies.
  • Coordinate planned pool closures, backwashing, repairs, and seasonal opening and closing of outdoor pools with the Aquatics Director.
  • Respond to water quality incidents, chemical spills, and equipment failures under the Emergency Action Plan; initiate closures when necessary and communicate with aquatics and lifeguard staff.
  • Coordinate vendors and contractors for work beyond the position’s scope and track service contracts and warranties.
  • Answer member and staff questions about pool conditions professionally and communicate repair status and service interruptions to the Aquatics Director.
  • Provide aquatics staff with basic guidance on water quality and chemical safety; contribute maintenance input to facility planning and capital projects.
  • Assist with general facility maintenance as time permits and perform other assigned duties.
