About The Position

A Polysomnography Technologist, under the direct supervision of the Polysomnography Coordinator and Sleep Disorder Centre/HVADS Manager (indirect reporting relationship to Sleep Disorder Centre Medical Director), performs diagnostic, therapeutic, and research Polysomnography studies and related therapies. The role also involves performing routine equipment care and maintenance, conducting routine inventory of supplies, participating in the day-to-day operations of the Sleep Disorder Centre, and complying with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines, and standards regarding safety and infection control issues.

Requirements

  • One (1) to Three (3) years clinical experience as a Polysomnography Technician is required.
  • Current and valid Board of Registered Polysomnography Technologists (B.R.P.T.) Certification.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training requirements for this position shall be in accordance with the Employer policy.
  • Basic computer skills/knowledge is required.
  • Works within the Centre’s core values, philosophy, vision, C.Q.I. goals, policies and procedures.
  • Attends relevant education programs, seminars, lectures, workshops, etc. to provide high quality service to patients and the Centre.
  • Keeps abreast of new developments in the field of polysomnography/ EEG/respiratory therapy through current literature, publications, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), as well as excellent interpersonal skills are required.
  • You must earn 50 hours of continuing education within a five (5) year period, with a minimum of five (5) hours each year.
  • Attends relevant education programs, seminars, lectures, workshops, etc., to provide high quality service to patients and the Centre.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, colour vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • In the performance of this job, the employee may be exposed to chemical vapours such as acetone, ether, or glutaraldehyde. There may also be skin contact with these substances.
