The Polysomnographic Technologist is responsible for conducting nocturnal polysomnograms, initiating nasal CPAP, conducting Multiple Sleep Latency Tests, and scoring all types of tests performed. This role involves gathering and setting up necessary equipment, explaining procedures to patients, preparing patients by applying electrodes and equipment according to AASM standards, calibrating and troubleshooting equipment, monitoring patients during testing, and contacting physicians in emergency situations. The technologist will also score polygraphic records, summarize findings, maintain equipment and supplies, and may collect urine samples. Additionally, the role includes assisting in training new personnel, answering phones, scheduling patients, and maintaining current BLS/CPR and sleep certifications. The position requires acquiring 10 CECs per year for sleep center accreditation and may involve assisting with new hire interviews, scoring training, and evaluating technical quality. Maintaining good rapport, constructive conflict resolution, and upholding confidentiality and the Code of Conduct are essential. The role also emphasizes performing job duties safely to ensure personal and coworker safety.
