Requirements

  • High School Diploma General or GED General
  • Associates Diagnostic Medical Sonography or Accredited Program Other
  • BLS - Basic Life Support or ARC-BLS - Amer Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS-I - Basic Life Support - Instructor
  • NBRC-SDS - Sleep Disorders Specialist or RPSGT - Registered Polysomnographer or RST - Reg Sleep Technologist
  • Associate's degree or vocational training in sleep technology
  • Minimum 5 years experience in the field of sleep disorders in an AASM accredited sleep facility.
  • Basic computer knowledge (preferred basic knowledge of Microsoft office)
  • Experience to basic sleep equipment.
  • Proficient in decision-making.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels, including Physicians.
  • Advanced trouble-shooting in sleep centers.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain night shift work schedules, troubleshoot technical and patient problems, and gather and analyze performance improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee Wellstar Sleep Centers, ensuring productivity, discipline, and adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Consult with leadership and physicians to ensure high-quality and consistent sleep services.
  • Perform daytime sleep studies and home sleep apnea tests as needed.
  • Follow procedural protocols for various sleep studies (MSLT, MWT, parasomnia, PAP/oxygen titration) to ensure data collection.
  • Perform physiological calibrations and make necessary adjustments.
  • Establish and document baseline values during 'lights out' procedures.
  • Acquire data, monitor tracing quality, identify and correct artifact.
  • Document observations, including sleep stages, clinical events, and procedural changes.
  • Implement appropriate interventions for patient safety and therapeutic purposes.
  • Verify data integrity and complete data collection during 'lights on' procedures.
  • Score sleep/wake stages and clinical events according to AASM standards.
  • Generate accurate reports by tabulating data.
  • Provide age-specific care for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Prepare and download data from portable monitoring equipment.
  • Educate patients and provide instruction for out-of-center sleep testing.
  • Adhere to cleaning and disinfection procedures for portable monitoring devices.
  • Score OCST according to AASM parameters, identify issues, and generate reports.
  • Train new hires, complete competencies, and participate in evaluations.
  • Perform quality checks on sleep studies and provide feedback to technologists.
  • Assist leaders with quality improvement initiatives.
  • Take call from techs on duty at other Sleep Centers and troubleshoot equipment remotely.
  • Escalate issues to leadership as needed.
  • Assist with supply inventory management.
  • Perform TJC drills and work with night technologists on TJC compliance.
  • Complete quarterly safety drills.
  • Work with day staff on patient handoffs and patient or technical issues.
  • Collect, analyze, and integrate patient information to meet specific needs.
  • Determine final testing parameters in conjunction with physicians and protocols.
  • Review patient history and verify medical orders.
  • Follow sleep center protocols related to sleep studies.
  • Verify patient identification, collect documents, and obtain consent.
  • Explain procedures and orient patients for in-center or out-of-center testing.
  • Select and calibrate appropriate equipment.
  • Apply electrodes and sensors according to standards.
  • Perform routine positive airway pressure (PAP) interface fitting and desensitization.
  • Comply with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines, and standards.
  • Perform routine equipment care, maintenance, and inventory evaluation.
  • Maintain current CPR or BLS certification.
  • Maintain certification in sleep technology.
  • Acquire Continuing Education Units (CEU) to maintain credentials.
  • Demonstrate computer skills, effective communication, social skills, customer service, critical thinking, and teamwork.
  • Follow HIPAA policies.
  • Respond to patient inquiries and provide education.
  • Adhere to sleep center policies related to quality assurance.
  • Evaluate sleep study related equipment and inventory.
  • Review and evaluate sleep studies and provide feedback to staff.
  • Analyze complex situations and apply policy.
  • Comply with professional standards of conduct.
  • Assist the medical director and/or Director of Sleep Services in all aspects of sleep center operations.
