About The Position

The Polysom Tech Trainee position is an entry-level training position to provide safe, reliable, diagnostic sleep testing and effective respiratory care as an advanced practitioner for adult, and geriatric populations, in accordance to discipline training level, Clinical Practice Guidelines, hospital standards, guidelines and protocols, as well as to serve as a sleep medicine technical resource and educator for patients, caregivers, hospital staff and students under the direct supervision of a licensed technologist. Develops competency in and performs the basic polysomnographic testing and associated patient care & treatment interventions under the direct supervision of a registered polysomnographic technologist (RPSGT), Sleep Disorder Specialist (SDS) or Registered Sleep Technologist (RST).

Requirements

  • Current AHA BLS Certification
  • Entry level PC and MS Windows knowledge
  • High school diploma or college transcript.
  • This position requires schedule flexibility and adaptability to accomplish the goals and mission of the health system to meet the needs of the patients we serve.
  • Physical: Lifting 50-100 lbs.
  • Activities: Prolonged standing, Prolonged sitting, Frequent bending, Walking (distance), Reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive), Repetitive motion

Nice To Haves

  • A trainee must be working through one of the established pathways to reach the RPSGT credential outlined by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT), Sleep Disorder Specialist (SDS), or Registered Sleep Technologist (RST)
  • At least one (1) year of work experience in a health care setting.
  • Education, training and/or experience that has satisfied the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT)

Responsibilities

  • Develops competency in and performs the basic polysomnographic testing and associated patient care & treatment interventions under the direct supervision of a registered polysomnographic technologist (RPSGT), Sleep Disorder Specialist (SDS) or Registered Sleep Technologist (RST).
  • All entry-level trainees must identify themselves to patients as a student or trainee in polysomnographic technology in accordance with Virginia state law.
  • Assists with the completion all independent actions listed for the Licensed: RPSGT, SDS, or RST (no RRT) under the direct oversight and training of a licensed, RPSGT, SDS, or RST credentialed sleep technologist as training and competency permit.
