About The Position

E Ink is seeking a highly motivated, creative and hands-on scientist to conduct leading-edge materials and process research for novel electrophoretic display technology. This Scientist will work on UV curable materials and polymer photolithography materials and process and pioneer new methods of making patterned UV-curable films in our Research and Advanced Development division. This individual will be based in Billerica, MA, and engage globally with E Ink’s R&D and manufacturing teams to champion technical innovations from conception to commercialization.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in materials science. polymer science, chemical engineering or a related field with photolithographic chemistry experience OR M.S. in materials science, polymer science, chemical engineering or a related field and 3+ years of industrial experience in photolithographic chemistry
  • R&D experience in one or more of the following or related areas: photopolymerization, R2R coatings, display devices
  • Knowledge of crosslinking chemistry, kinetics, and characterization
  • Creativity and flexibility to take on wholly new applications and technologies
  • Possess a deep understanding of structure-property relationships in polymeric films
  • Excellent troubleshooting, teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Self-directed, motivated, and hands-on personality. Ability to work in a fast-paced, open-minded, highly interdisciplinary work environment

Nice To Haves

  • Continuous R2R photolithography experience
  • Embossing or nanoimprint lithography experience
  • Experience solving adhesion-related issues
  • Display industry experience
  • Knowledge of chemical, electrical and optical characterization in materials
  • Technical project management experience

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop UV-curable formulations for roll-to-roll process
  • Balance mechanical, optical, and electrical properties to meet the device’s performance requirements
  • Spearhead research and development of novel photolithographic processes and materials
  • Work with R&D colleagues to determine critical parameters and meet performance goals
  • Engage with stakeholders across the company to facilitate process scale-up
  • Develop a broad understanding of interactive components of multi-layer material stacks
  • Work with global technology teams and external development partners to rapidly advance project goals and actively pursue contingency plans
  • Communicate progress in organized reports to stakeholders
