About The Position

Corning Incorporated is seeking an Polymer Engineer to join their Manufacturing, Technology and Engineering organization in Corning, NY. This role is for new or recent graduates with 0-2 years of experience, with a start date in late Summer or early Fall 2027. The position involves hands-on work in laboratory, product, and manufacturing environments, with up to 25% travel, primarily domestic, for training and business needs. The role offers an opportunity to apply polymer and materials science fundamentals to solve technical challenges in material selection, characterization, processing, product development, and manufacturing support. The engineer will support multiple Corning businesses and technologies, collaborating with researchers, suppliers, manufacturing teams, and subject matter experts to enhance product and process performance.

Requirements

BS in Polymer Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical discipline
0–2 years of relevant experience, including coursework, internships, co-ops, undergraduate research, graduate work, or industry experience
Understanding of polymer and materials science fundamentals, including structure-property relationships
Experience with laboratory testing, material characterization, or experimental research
Strong analytical, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams

Nice To Haves

MS or PhD in a relevant discipline
Experience with polymer processing such as molding, extrusion, compounding, or related operations
Exposure to thermal analysis and polymer characterization methods such as DSC, TGA, DMA, or rheology
Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE), statistical analysis, or structured problem-solving tools such as DMAIC, Six Sigma, or KT
Exposure to manufacturing environments, process development, sustainability initiatives, recycled materials, or regrind utilization

Responsibilities

Conduct laboratory experiments and material characterization studies on polymer systems
Analyze polymer properties, behavior, and performance using appropriate testing and analytical methods
Design and execute experiments to investigate material behavior, processing effects, and product performance
Support the development, qualification, and optimization of polymer materials and manufacturing processes
Apply structured problem-solving methods to identify root causes and implement improvements
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve product, process, and manufacturing challenges
Document technical findings through reports, presentations, and engineering recommendations
