About The Position

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) is seeking highly motivated policy research interns passionate about democracy and voting rights. This internship is designed for students enrolled in accredited graduate or law schools who have strong academic backgrounds, excellent writing skills, and a commitment to public interest work. The SPLC is a catalyst for racial justice, working to dismantle white supremacy, strengthen intersectional movements, and advance human rights through research, education, outreach, litigation, and policy advocacy.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited graduate or law school program.
  • Strong academic background.
  • Excellent research and writing skills.
  • Demonstrated passion for advancing civil rights and social justice issues.
  • Strong interest in federal, state, and local government advocacy.
  • Ability to help conduct policy research to support advocacy strategies.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of SPLC's mission, vision, and values.

Responsibilities

  • Work alongside the Policy Research Team to research, write, and analyze data to support advocacy strategies in alignment with voting rights initiatives.
  • Assist in drafting research memos, fact sheets, and other written materials.
  • Collaborate with other members of the Policy team to support ongoing policy research needs.
  • Uphold JEDI principles by seeking diverse collaborators and partners to ensure impactful work directed towards the Center's mission, vision, and department goals.

Benefits

  • Paid hourly at $17.95 per hour.
  • Minimum of 15 hours per week for 18 weeks.
  • Opportunity for supervisor-approved overtime.
