About The Position

South Dakota Medicaid is hiring up to two policy interns for the Summer session (May - August). These interns will gain hands-on experience in managing one of South Dakota's largest healthcare insurers. The internship offers meaningful work that impacts South Dakotans and prepares interns for future success. The experience will cover various aspects of the Medicaid program, preparing interns for careers in healthcare administration, government, or related fields. Interns will be involved in current projects and may undertake responsibilities such as researching and analyzing medical service coverage, reviewing and analyzing medical claims data for recommendations, developing and revising marketing materials, identifying and proposing innovative practices, analyzing medical service reimbursement rates, and assisting the Division of Medical Services with other tasks as needed. South Dakota Medicaid is crucial to the healthcare of many residents, covering individuals and families with low incomes, including about 50 percent of South Dakota children under one year old.

Requirements

Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply.
By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.
Applicant must be a current part-time or full-time student (minimum of 6 credit hours) in the upcoming semester or in the immediately preceding semester.
