About The Position

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest, most complex agencies in the state, and has approximately 17,000 employees. It is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all North Carolinians, providing human service needs for special populations including individuals who are deaf, blind, developmentally disabled, and mentally ill, and helping poor North Carolinians achieve economic independence. The primary purpose of this position is to research, write, and disseminate child welfare policy information regarding child protective services. This position also drafts written responses to media requests and develops forms. This position will work as team member for implementation of any initiative or project that requires a policy change in any matters related to the assigned subject matter. The Division of Social Services provides direct services that address issues of poverty, family violence and exploitation. We aim to prevent abuse, neglect, and exploitation of vulnerable citizens, and promote self-reliance and self-sufficiency for individuals and families.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in a discipline relative to the program from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of related experience; or Bachelor’s degree in a discipline relative to the program area from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Documented child welfare experience and ability to demonstrate working knowledge of child welfare programs, concepts, practice, policies, laws, and rules related to child protective services; intake and assessments, in-home services;
  • Proven experience in ability to research, analyze and interpret Federal and State laws and formulate them into policies related to child welfare;
  • Documented experience in technical writing to complete formal written documents and develop forms for a range of audiences, that are accurate, detailed and grammatically correct;
  • Proven experience in implementing child welfare-related policies or procedures and monitoring those implemented policies and procedures for compliance to get the intended results;
  • Demonstrate excellent communications skills, both written and verbal to a wide range of professional stakeholders and public.
