About The Position

Technology and Innovation is responsible for making innovation and technology the driving force behind Alberta’s economic growth and diversification. The Innovation, Privacy and Stewardship (IPS) Division is accountable for the Alberta Technology and Innovation Strategy; the protection of personal information and guidance around the ethical use of data; and the governance of Alberta Innovates and the Alberta Enterprise Corporation. The division also advances the strategies and policies related to the delivery of data, content management, technology, and privacy related programs and services. Within the IPS Division, the Privacy, Policy and Governance (PPG) Branch leads the enhancement and development of enterprise technology, content and privacy management legislation, policy, and strategic initiatives. The branch is also accountable for all department legislation and policy and delivery of privacy services and support for government. The PPG branch is looking for a Policy Analyst. Reporting to the Manager, Access and Privacy Policy, this position is part of the team responsible for developing and monitoring the Government of Alberta’s privacy policy instruments. This work spans the full policy suite, from legislation to enterprise‑level guidance on privacy.

Requirements

  • 2-year diploma in a related field (e.g., Political Science, Public Administration, Communications, Business Administration, Information Management), supplemented by two (2) years of progressively responsible, related experience.
  • Familiarity with privacy law and concepts or policy processes.
  • A cover letter clearly demonstrating relevant skills and competencies tailored to this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience providing guidance or responding to inquiries related to privacy legislation or practices.
  • Knowledge of government operations or processes.
  • Knowledge of regulations and policy frameworks governing privacy, including the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA) and Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the development of enterprise privacy policy instruments (e.g., legislation, policy, directives, standards and guidance) through research, analysis, and jurisdictional scans.
  • Reviewing and contributing to policy content to ensure alignment with best practices and legislative requirements.
  • Providing writing, editing, and presentation support to communicate complex policy information clearly.
  • Supporting stakeholder communications by preparing responses, coordinating input, and managing inquiries.
  • Building and maintaining networks to inform policy development through consultations and stakeholder engagement.
