About The Position

The Police Sergeant supervises a shift or section and directs a group of officers and/or support staff under general supervision. The role also participates in peace officer duties involving the protection of life and property, enforcement of laws and ordinances, and crime prevention and investigation. The Sergeant directs and performs specified staff assignments and other related work as assigned.

This promotional opportunity is open to current City of Cathedral City employees only. Candidates must attach the required certifications and proof of degree and/or college semester units to their applications. Qualified candidates may be invited to a selection process consisting of a pass/fail written examination and an oral interview. Placement on the six-month eligibility list is based on oral interview results. Notifications are sent by email.

Requirements

• Three years of law enforcement experience as a sworn Police Officer.
• An Associate of Science degree in Criminal Justice or a related field, or completion of 60 semester units of college-level coursework.
• Possess a valid California driver license.
• Meet physical, psychological, and background standards.
• Maintain firearms qualification.
• Be willing to work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Possess a P.O.S.T. basic certificate and an Advanced P.O.S.T. certificate.
• Attach required certifications and proof of degree and/or semester units to the application.
