About The Position

The City of Burbank is currently hiring for Police Recruit. This position requires attending a regular basic California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST)-certified law enforcement academy. Upon graduation, recruits will be sworn in as full duty Police Officers. The role involves learning laws, police procedures, law enforcement techniques, first aid, and physical fitness, as well as driving on City business. Candidates must complete the department application and the FrontLine National written exam through the National Testing Network by NOON Friday, November 6, 2026, and select the City of Burbank to share their results. A 90-day waiting period applies for candidates who withdraw, fail to appear, or fail any part of the testing process. Candidates may be required to reside within one hour of their work location after completing their initial probationary period. The starting salary is $7,955.65/month, increasing to $8,332.18 - $10,405.76/month ($99,986.12 - $124,869.16 annually) after successful completion of the Police Academy. Differential pay is available for Advanced POST certification (10% of top step) and Master's Degrees ($495/month).

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • Ability to observe and learn various laws, police procedures, law enforcement techniques, and first aid.
  • Ability to analyze problems and have the potential to rationally and calmly take effective action in emergency and stress situations.
  • Ability to undergo strenuous physical conditioning.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, fellow employees, and the public.
  • Must be at least 20 years of age to apply and must have reached 21 years of age upon graduation from the academy.
  • Must possess a valid California Class “C” driver’s license or equivalent at time of appointment.
  • Must complete the department application and the FrontLine National written exam through the National Testing Network at www.NationalTestingNetwork.com before NOON Friday, November 6, 2026.
  • Must select the City of Burbank to share written exam results with the agency.

Responsibilities

Benefits

  • Current salary: $7,955.65/month.
  • Post-academy salary: $8,332.18 - $10,405.76/month ($99,986.12 - $124,869.16 annually).
  • Differential pay of 10% of the top step of a Police Officer for Advanced POST certification (approx. $960/month).
  • Differential pay of $495 per month for a Master's Degree (effective 7/1/2016).
