Incumbents attend, participate, and successfully complete the POST-certified Police Recruit Training Academy prior to being commissioned as a Police Officer for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. This role requires maintaining physical fitness, obeying laws, successfully completing academy training, wearing a uniform, purchasing required equipment and a vest upon graduation, meeting firearm qualifications, participating in random drug screening, maintaining a valid driver's license, working any hours/days/shifts including holidays and weekends, being subject to call-back or overtime, wearing safety equipment, studying learning materials on off-duty time, complying with department rules and regulations, adhering to the department's values represented by the "ICARE" acronym, staying current on training, and obtaining/maintaining a Nevada driver's license and vehicle registration. The position also involves undergoing a background investigation, including polygraph, drug test, medical exam, hearing test, and psychological testing, and maintaining physical fitness for job duties and participating in the LVMPD Mental Wellness Program. Personal appearance standards are strict, prohibiting visible tattoos, branding, or jewelry implants in certain areas, and any markings that promote racism, discrimination, indecency, extremist philosophies, lawlessness, violence, or contain sexually explicit material are prohibited. Physical and mental conditions must be sufficient to meet all standards for academy training, including firearm and weapon proficiency, defensive tactics, vision, hearing, dexterity, mobility, agility, strength, endurance, and alertness.
