About The Position

The City of Coppell Police Department is seeking to add Police Recruits and Police Officers to our team. We are seeking candidates with heart, soul, and a passion for public service. A police recruit is a temporary status for new employees while they complete the Basic Course in Applied Police Science (BCAPS), acquire a T.C.O.L.E Basic Peace Officer Certification, and complete Field Training and Probationary Period. A Police Officer is responsible for ensuring public safety through crime prevention and law enforcement, working with the community, and providing a wide variety of services.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age by T.C.O.L.E Graduation, or older
  • Valid State of Texas Driver's License, or the ability to obtain one, with a good driving record
  • Ability to satisfactorily complete our hiring process: Complete the Preliminary Application, Physical Fitness Test (Concept 2 Rower), Written Examination, Internal Background Investigation, Online DISC Assessment, Oral Panel Interview
  • Ability to satisfactorily complete all pre-employment requirements post contingent offer: Credit, Education, and Employment Verification, Polygraph, Psychological (L3), and Drug/Medical Evaluation (L2)
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Thirty (30) hours of college education from a regionally accredited university or college with a 2.0, or higher, overall grade point average (GPA)
  • T.C.O.L.E Basic Peace Officer Certification (for Police Officer role)
  • Be in good standing with current/previous agency (for Lateral Transfer candidates)
  • Certified Peace Officer with at least 3 years of experience in a progressive agency of comparable size to Coppell from any state (for Lateral Transfer candidates)
  • Experience as a reserve officer, constable, military service, military police, and jailer is not accepted.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior patrol duty experience
  • TCOLE Advanced Certification
  • Fluency in a language other than English
  • Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, or a related field of study

Responsibilities

  • Satisfactorily attend and complete the Basic Course in Applied Police Science (BCAPS, also known as Basic Police Academy)
  • Satisfactorily acquire a T.C.O.L.E Basic Peace Officer Certification
  • Satisfactorily complete Field Training and Probationary Period
  • Help people by providing public safety to the City Of Coppell
  • Promote police / community partnerships through Problem-Oriented Policing and Community Policing
  • Provide a wide variety of services to our community including Citizens Police Academy, Junior Police Academy, Citizens on Patrol, Women's Self Defense, and more
  • Enforce traffic and parking laws
  • Participate in community events and providing public safety at City-sponsored events, sporting events, and other large scale public events
