The City of Lakewood is seeking a Property Evidence Technician for the Lakewood Police Department. This is a safety-sensitive position that requires a high degree of accuracy, discretion, trust, and confidence. The primary responsibilities include receiving, recording, securing, and storing property and evidence, as well as maintaining the chain of custody. The role also involves assisting agents and detectives with investigative requests, responding to customer inquiries, transporting evidence, preparing for evidence views, maintaining inventory, and managing the release and destruction of property and evidence in accordance with laws and policies. The position requires the ability to handle potentially large, bulky, oversized, and heavy items, and to follow department procedures, judicial district guidelines, and applicable laws. The technician will also be responsible for owner notification for property release, data entry, ordering supplies, coordinating drug destruction, conducting annual inventories, updating disposition notices, and testifying in court. Transportation of evidence to laboratories, including biohazards and hazardous chemicals, is also a key duty. The position may involve other related duties and special projects as assigned.
