About The Position

Provides law enforcement services for the Police Department and the citizens of Owensboro, supporting productive, safe, efficient, and customer-oriented administration of City services. Work is performed using generally accepted law enforcement practices and under the direction of designated management, in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, laws, and regulations. Officers patrol an assigned beat on foot or in an appropriate police vehicle to control traffic, prevent crime and disturbances of the peace, and arrest violators. Officers may also be assigned to other units. Applicants will receive a packet with test-session options, test sites, mandatory forms, and additional information by email at a later date.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Must have a valid driver's license.
• Must be at least 21 years old by the test date of September 3, 2027.
• Must have a high school diploma or GED.
• Must meet at least one of the following qualifications: an associate's degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university in law enforcement, social sciences, communications, management, or another job-related field; two years of active-duty military service; three years of full-time law enforcement experience; an equivalent combination of job-related accredited college or university hours and prior full-time law enforcement experience; or two years of full-time employment in Central Dispatch at the Owensboro Police Department.
• Must not have a felony conviction, a Class A misdemeanor conviction, or three or more Class B misdemeanor convictions.
• Must not have used illegal drugs within 12 months of the anticipated hire date.

Responsibilities

• Patrol an assigned beat on foot or in an appropriate police vehicle.
