The Police Officer position is an experienced law enforcement officer position. Campus police officers are responsible for providing highly visible patrols on and around the University campus, responding to calls for services, and identifying problem areas and situations. Campus police officers report to the Shift Supervisor (Sergeant) on their respective shifts. Essential Functions include patrolling campus and surrounding areas, responding to calls for service, backing up officers, identifying and reporting hazards and suspicious activities. Officers are expected to be highly visible and alert for safety and security hazards, suspicious activities, and intruders. They respond to alarms and all calls for campus police services, rendering services as per departmental procedure. Securing buildings, offices, classrooms, and other areas is also a key responsibility. Incidents are investigated thoroughly and completely with detailed information provided in a written report, seeking resources to facilitate a logical solution or conclusion. Assistance is provided to the sick and injured as per National Safety Council procedures, identifying situations requiring medical assistance and rendering aid such as CPR and First Aid. AEDs and other issued equipment are utilized as per procedures. Officers provide escorts for sick or injured students, faculty, and staff, and give instructions to the Loyola community during emergencies, routine events, and upon request. They make arrests and/or transport arrestees to central booking, and appear in court to present evidence and/or testify as required. Articulating information about the University, the Department of Public Safety, and providing written details about incidents and events are crucial. Officers assist in controlling traffic, parking enforcement, and vehicle assists; containing and controlling crowds; and providing a safe environment during large events. Non-essential duties may include attendance of and participation in required training for the role.
