POLICE OFFICER (Certifiable, In POST, or Lateral Transfer)
About The Position
Tooele City Police Department is seeking experienced lateral transfer officers, certifiable officers, or current POST cadets to fill an opening and establish a roster for future openings. The department’s 45 officers serve a community of 41,000 residents and responded to approximately 17,000 calls last year. Officers are well trained and equipped, address crime while respecting the constitutional rights of community members, and work in a culture that values integrity, ethical conduct, camaraderie, work-family balance, and officer safety. The position remains open until filled; applications are considered on a rolling basis, with first consideration given to early applicants. Pay rates are $31.10–$31.72 per hour for Police Officer I, $34.09–$36.17 per hour for Police Officer II, and $40.43–$50.26 per hour for Corporal / Police Officer III. The department offers year-for-year lateral credit for prior sworn law enforcement experience, a transparent salary schedule, robust retirement benefits, and a student loan repayment program for college or POST-related debt. Tooele City is a drug- and alcohol-free workplace. Background checks, including criminal history checks, are required for applicants age 18 and older; criminal history is not an automatic disqualification. Positions considered safety-sensitive and/or requiring a CDL are subject to pre-employment drug testing and random drug and alcohol testing during employment. Employees in positions requiring driving must possess and maintain a valid Utah driver license (or obtain one before hire), have 12 months of driving experience excluding learner’s permit time, and meet the City’s driving-record standards. Requirements
- Be an experienced lateral transfer officer, a certifiable officer, or a current POST cadet.
- For positions requiring driving, possess and maintain a valid Utah State Driver License, or obtain one before hire.
- For positions requiring driving, have 12 months of driving experience, excluding time with a learner’s permit.
- For positions requiring driving, have a driving record acceptable under Tooele City’s insurance and risk management standards.
- Applicants age 18 and older must undergo a background check, including a criminal history check.
- Positions designated safety-sensitive and/or requiring a CDL are subject to pre-employment drug testing and random drug and alcohol testing during employment.
