The Louisville Police Department is seeking to hire experienced lateral Police Officers, POST-certified candidates, or those currently enrolled in an academy. Requirements

Must be twenty-one (21) years of age at the time of hire.
Possession of a High School diploma or equivalent is required.
Current Colorado P.O.S.T. certification or will have obtained certification by the date of hire is required.
P.O.S.T. Certified out-of-state candidates are eligible for hire but will be required to obtain provisional CO P.O.S.T certification.
Valid Colorado Driver's License with acceptable driving record, or ability to obtain a Colorado Driver license upon becoming a Colorado resident.
Successful completion of comprehensive personal background investigation to include employment verification, reference check, criminal background check, civil court records review, truth detection examination, physical ability test, medical physical exam, drug screen, polygraph and psychological examination.
Demonstrates ability to think clearly and act wisely in stressful and non-stressful situations.
Knowledge of community policing principles and practices.
Knowledge of emergency medical and first aid practices.
Knowledge of laws, applicable ordinances and contemporary court decisions.
Knowledge of police related equipment and gear.
Skilled in identifying, collecting, and preserving evidence.
Skilled in operating motor vehicles in hazardous situations.
Maintains proficiency levels pursuant to Department standards and meets on-going qualification requirements for police equipment and systems.
Skilled in the use of computer technology and applications programs and other police equipment, to include police radios and mobile data terminals.
Ability to work effectively with the news media, the community, and other agencies and organizations.
Ability to analyze data and make decisions.
Ability to initiate and maintain productive communications and cooperation.
Ability to plan and coordinate activities.
Ability to effectively manage and respond to crisis situations.
Ability to analyze and investigate crime related situations.
Ability to prepare key boarded and complete hand written reports and documents.
Ability to communicate effectively and clearly when giving oral presentations.
Ability to physically pursue, capture, and detain/arrest suspects.
Ability to work holidays, nights, weekends, and a variety of shifts and hours as scheduled.
Certified as a Peace Officer by the State of Colorado Peace Officers' Standards and Training Board by time of hire.
Fluently read, write, and speak English.

Nice To Haves

Minimum of three years of certified law enforcement experience with a similar sized agency or larger.
College degree with coursework in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Public Administration, Sociology, Business Administration, Management, Public Administration, Emergency Management, or related field.
A combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

Performs a wide variety of police and law enforcement duties under the supervision of a Police Sergeant or Police Corporal.
Responds to any and all situations that require a public safety presence.
Protects life and property, maintains public order, conducts investigations, handles traffic enforcement and municipal code enforcement, apprehends and arrests offenders, conducts civil processes.
Works with schools, businesses, and community groups to foster good citizen/police relationships.
Pro-actively works to reduce crime.
Uses physical force, including deadly force, to protect citizens and apprehend criminal suspects.
Provides medical services, helps the mentally ill, conducts searches, and makes public presentations.
Adheres to the highest ethical code of conduct while both on-duty and off-duty.
Responds to priority calls regarding public disturbances, criminal, civil, or emergency situations.
Directs activities on site unless relieved by a supervisor.
Maintains public order and may provide emergency medical assistance, traffic control, and otherwise ensure attention is given to general public safety.
Detects and prevents criminal activities by surveillance and active patrols of assigned business and residential areas.
Notes possible criminal occurrences and takes steps to prevent criminal actions.
Promotes crime prevention by initiating contact with businesses and residents, explaining applicable laws, soliciting cooperation in crime reporting, and developing rapport with citizens.
Investigates crime scenes and traffic crashes, assists other officers.
Identifies, collects, and preserves evidence, and interviews witnesses and suspects.
Enforces traffic laws and vehicle codes and promotes pedestrian and bicycle safety.
Prepares a variety of handwritten, typed, and/or keyboarded reports related to crimes, accidents, and other duties.
Maintains logs, completes forms, and prepares reports as requested.
Provides a variety of related police services including transporting prisoners, providing assistance to motorists, resolving domestic disturbances, public speaking before civic and non-civic groups, and testifying in court.
Makes physical arrests that may or may not necessitate the use of force.
Operates specialized and non-specialized police equipment including a police car, firearms, handcuffs, leg restraints, radios, and other related equipment.
Wears a ballistic vest.
