About The Position

The Town of Wallingford currently employs 80 sworn Officers and offers a large variety of specialty units/positions. Wallingford Police Officers receive comprehensive health benefits, a pension and a generous salary range rank of currently at $ 35.04 - $ 46.35 per hour (Must start at Step 1 of salary range). Wallingford is centrally located between New Haven and Hartford, and Boston and New York City. The population is approximately 44,396 and is spread over 39.9 square miles. Requirements

  • Graduated from an accredited high school or obtained a formal certificate of equivalent to high school graduation.
  • Reached the age of 21 years.
  • Must be a citizen of the United States of America.
  • Must possess a motor vehicle operator's license issued by the State of Connecticut or another state, and the license must not be under suspension.
  • Must have passed a validated written test designed to evaluate predictors of job-related skills and behaviors.
  • Must have passed an oral interview panel examination or other appropriate assessment process approved by the council, designed to evaluate predictors of job related skills and behaviors, including interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must have been fingerprinted and submitted to the FBI for criminal history record check, and also subject to a search for criminal history records in Connecticut and any other state of residence.
  • Must have no criminal record revealing any conviction of a felony, or any Class A or Class B misdemeanor, or any crime that would constitute a Class A or Class B misdemeanor if committed in this state, or committed any act constituting perjury or false statement.
  • Must have undergone a background investigation, including completion of a personal history form, a check of motor vehicle law convictions (DUI, evasion of responsibility), and a polygraph examination after a conditional offer of employment.
  • Must have undergone a psychological examination conducted by a licensed professional, with a written report on file and a written opinion of psychological stability.
  • Must have submitted to a controlled substance screen with no presence of any non-prescribed controlled substance.
  • Must have signed a statement acknowledging that falsifying any part of the application process is grounds for termination.
  • Must submit medical certification forms permitting physical agility testing.
  • Must have been tested for physical fitness and achieved a score at least as high as the minimum acceptable percentile for each individual test, using the minimum acceptable score for each individual test, as set by the Council. (C.H.I.P. administers the Police Physical Ability Assessment).

Nice To Haves

  • Possess a C.H.I.P. card (Police Physical Ability Assessment) which is valid for a 12-month period and accepted by the Town of Wallingford.
