About The Position

The City of Dickinson Police Department is seeking entry-level candidates and experienced lateral officers to serve the Dickinson community with integrity, professionalism, and dedication. Officers help protect the safety and well-being of residents. Entry-level and lateral officers have separate qualification requirements and pay ranges. The role offers opportunities for training and career advancement. Applicants who advance must complete an online written test, physical agility test, and panel interview(s), successfully completing each stage before moving to the next.

Requirements

• Entry-level applicants must be at least 20 years old.
• Entry-level applicants must have a high school diploma or GED.
• Lateral applicants must hold current North Dakota POST certification or an equivalent out-of-state certification.
• Lateral applicants must be in good standing with their current law enforcement agency, with no ongoing internal, criminal, or civil investigations.
• Lateral applicants must have at least three consecutive years of full-time law enforcement field experience.
• Lateral applicants must be employed full-time with arrest powers by a state, county, or municipal law enforcement agency, or have been laid off or voluntarily retired within the past 12 months while in good standing and eligible for rehire.
• Additional qualifications apply regarding minimum sworn officer/deputy requirements at qualifying agencies.
• Applicants selected to advance must successfully complete an online written test, physical agility test, and panel interview(s).

Nice To Haves

• An associate degree is preferred for entry-level applicants.
• College-level coursework or specialized training in law enforcement, criminal justice, or a related field is highly desirable.

Benefits

• Entry-level annual pay: $60,345–$72,005, based on qualifications and experience.
• Lateral annual pay: $72,006–$81,468, based on qualifications and experience.
• Night differential of an additional $1.00 per hour.
• Lateral officer sign-on bonus of up to $5,000, with an optional vacation time package.
