About The Position

Under general supervision and administrative direction, the Police Officer has the primary responsibility to provide emergency and non-emergency response to individuals and entities that request or require support services on properties of the Tucson Airport Authority (TAA) at Tucson International Airport (TUS) and Ryan Airfield (RYN). This role ensures all federal regulations pertinent to safety, security, and emergency management are followed, and that the laws of the State of Arizona and the United States are enforced within the jurisdiction of the TAA. The officer must understand and adhere to department and TAA policies, supporting TAA's Mission, Vision, Guiding Principles, and Cultural Fundamentals.

Requirements

A minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
United States Citizenship.
Arizona Police Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Board certified.
Knowledge of FAA FAR Part 139, TSA Part 1542, ADOT standards, NIMS/ICS, and other pertinent Local, State, and Federal codes, regulations, and standards is helpful.
Knowledge of changes in Federal, State, and Local laws affecting airport security, operations, and safety.
Knowledge of TAA jurisdiction and Mutual Aid, TAA airport geography, and TAA departments.
Excellent organizational, oral, written communications, and proofreading skills.
Excellent critical thinking and multi-tasking skills.
Ability to take initiative and be a self-starter.
Ability to effectively manage emergency events and situations consistent with federal regulations, NIMS/ICS, and best practices.
Ability to use critical thinking principles to identify and resolve practical and complex problems with versatility, judgment, and perception.

Ability to wear appropriate respirators when applicable and pass an annual respirator fit test.

Ability to distinguish the colors red, green, and yellow in airfield marking, lighting, and emergency light gun signals.
Ability to communicate via telephone, radio, and cellular telephone with sufficient clarity.
Ability to hear radio and telephone transmissions in a high noise environment.
Ability to hear and understand through both ears, sounds coming through a radio, a standard telephone receiver, or other outside sound sources.
Ability to read, write, and speak the English language in an articulate, fluent manner.
Ability to work assigned shifts, including day/evening/weekends/holidays, subject to overtime and on-call, as required.
Ability to operate a computer and appropriate software.
Ability to establish and maintain effective and positive working relationships.
Ability to initiate and organize responsibilities without observant supervision.
Ability to take independent action relative to emergency operations and work problems requiring immediate solutions.

Valid Arizona Driver's license.
Meet and maintain the ability to drive airport vehicles and obtain authorization to access the Non-Movement Area and Movement Area on the Air Operations Area.
Must obtain and maintain access to the Security Identification Display Area (SIDA).
Must successfully complete the National Incident Management System (NIMS) 100, 200, 700, 800, course requirements and certification within the first year of assuming the position.
Maintain Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Board certification.
Must have the ability to pass an annual respirator fit test.
Maintain physical strength, agility, and health.
As an employee, you are deemed to be essential personnel as part of TAA's emergency response, and must respond to airport incidents, as requested/required.

Responsibilities

Provide emergency and non-emergency response to requests for support services on TAA properties.
Ensure compliance with all Federal, State, and local laws, rules, and regulations, and TAA policies and procedures.
Protect life and property and provide public safety within departmental policies and guidelines.
Perform law enforcement patrol activities and enforce laws; maintain public order; maintain high visibility to deter and prevent crime.
Operate patrol vehicles; pursue offenders by patrol vehicle and on foot.
Conduct investigations; issue summonses/citations and warnings; stop and/or arrest offenders.
Search persons, places, and things for evidence or weapons; seize and impound property and evidence.
Transport persons and property.
Perform law enforcement tasks mandated by TSA Part 1542 and FAA FAR Part 139.
Manage emergency and non-emergency contacts, including radio and telephone communications with TAA departments, FAA ATCT, TSA, and local agencies.
Communicate effectively in person, by radio, or telephone.
Mediate disputes in civil or criminal matters.
Perform crowd and riot control activities, including evacuation.
Protect crime and traffic accident scenes; conduct investigations; conduct interviews; measure and diagram scenes.
Dictate detailed reports of investigative findings and complete all appropriate paperwork.
Seize and process evidence; present testimony and evidence in court proceedings.
Perform public assistance activities, including first aid, assisting motorists, directing traffic, and assisting/referring persons in need.
Physically move persons, vehicles, and other property from unsafe locations.
Respond to airport emergencies and situations involving potential loss of life or property.
Support public safety and operational response to emergencies.
Utilize Incident Management System (ICS)/National Incident Management System (NIMS) protocols and procedures.
Coordinate and/or participate in after-action emergency de-briefing.
