About The Position

The City of North Kansas City, Missouri is currently accepting applications for the position of Police Officer. This is an excellent opportunity to serve a progressive community while working in a professional, well-equipped law enforcement agency. Applicants who are POST certified at the time of hire may be eligible for a cash incentive upon successful completion of the Field Training Program. Applicants who are not POST certified will be sponsored by the City to attend a police academy. Police Officers perform general law enforcement duties involving the protection of life and property, enforcement of local and state laws, and the investigation of criminal activity.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to pass an annual physical examination as required by City policy
  • Ability to qualify with all department-issued firearms
  • Ability to utilize hand-to-hand defensive tactics to control resistant or combative individuals
  • Committed a crime classified as a felony under Missouri law (regardless of conviction status)
  • Four moving violations within four years or two moving violations within a 12-month period
  • Committed a domestic violence-related offense
  • Sold narcotics
  • Been deceitful or untruthful during an official police investigation or administrative inquiry
  • Used or possessed any controlled substance that would be classified as a felony under Missouri law
  • Illegally used any misdemeanor-controlled substance within the past two years
  • Provided misleading or false information on the employment application

Responsibilities

  • Patrol city streets, roadways, and public areas on foot, bicycle, or in a patrol vehicle
  • Enforce traffic laws, direct traffic, issue citations, and investigate traffic crashes
  • Respond to calls for service and investigate crimes and incidents
  • Interview victims, witnesses, and suspects; gather evidence and prepare detailed written reports
  • Apprehend offenders in accordance with constitutional standards and probable cause requirements
  • Demonstrate proficiency in firearms handling, report writing, oral communication, and use of speed-measuring devices
  • Resolve conflicts and interact professionally with the public
  • Maintain knowledge of city geography and applicable criminal, traffic, and constitutional law
  • Make sound decisions under stressful and potentially dangerous conditions
  • Appear and testify in court as required
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
