About The Position

Lafayette College has an opening for a Full-Time Police Officer. The Police Officer is charged with the security of life, limb, property, and equipment. This role involves the enforcement of Lafayette College rules, regulations, City Ordinances and Federal and State laws. The officer will provide armed patrol of the campus by vehicle and on foot, investigate reports of criminal activity, and document police interactions in the department’s record management system. Responsibilities also include providing security for campus buildings and property, directing traffic, investigating motor vehicle accidents, and offering various services such as medical transports, motorist assists, and responding to alarms. The officer will also conduct crime awareness programs, check for and report suspicious activity, provide security at special events, and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Completion of PA Act 120 training
  • Certifiable under Act 235 Lethal Weapons Training Act
  • Ability to be commissioned as a police officer under Section 501 of the Non-Profit Corporation Law
  • Meet requirements of Section 7504 of the Pennsylvania Crimes Code
  • Pennsylvania residency at time of appointment.
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Superior interpersonal skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability and desire to work closely with all constituencies of the College including students, staff and faculty, in addition to the general public

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience as a community-oriented police officer is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide armed patrol of the campus by vehicle and on foot.
  • Investigate reports of criminal activity.
  • Document any police interactions and prepare reports in the department’s record management system.
  • Provide security of all campus buildings and property.
  • Direct traffic and investigate motor vehicle accidents.
  • Provide a variety of services including but not limited to: medical transports, motorist assists, money escorts, lock/unlock requests, respond to fire alarms, burglary alarms panic alarms, accident and criminal investigations.
  • Conduct crime awareness programs along with Resident Advisors for the students.
  • Check for and report all suspicious activity, equipment malfunction, and other irregularities.
  • Provide for security at special events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director, Chief of Police, Lieutenant or Sergeant.
