About The Position

The City of Aurora, Illinois is accepting applications for an Entry Level Police Officer position to establish a Civil Service eligibility list with the Aurora Police Department. This role requires meeting specific age, citizenship, and driver's license requirements. Candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED with a minimum GPA or score, or a certain number of college credits with a minimum GPA. A valid Police Officer Physical Ability Test certification (POWER card) is required by the background phase. The hiring process includes a thorough background investigation, polygraph, psychological examination, drug screen, and pre-employment physical. The department has a specific tattoo policy prohibiting tattoos on the head, neck, and facial area, with restrictions on hand tattoos and other visible tattoos that may be objectionable or demeaning to the department's image.

Requirements

At least 20 years of age and under 35 years of age at the time of the written exam.
At least 21 years of age and under 36 years of age at the time of appointment.
United States citizen.
Valid Class “D” Illinois driver’s license or a valid out-of-state driver’s license of similar classification.
High school diploma with a grade point average of 2.0 out of 4.0, or a G.E.D. with a minimum composite score of no less than 401 points, or at least sixteen (16) hours of college credit with a grade point average of 2.0 out of 4.0.
Valid Police Officer Physical Ability Test certification/POWER card by the time of the background phase (certifications valid within one year of issuance date).
Meet vision standard at time of appointment (correctable to 20/20 in both eyes, including field of vision/depth perception/color vision within normal ranges).
Submit application online on the City of Aurora UKG employment site and upload all required documents by 3:00 p.m. CDT on August 19, 2026.
Register, pay, and complete the video-based job simulation multiple-choice exam through National Testing Network by 11:59 p.m. CDT on August 26, 2026.
Provide Birth Certificate or Naturalization Certificate, if applicable.
Provide Valid driver’s license.
Provide Valid Police Officer Physical Ability Test certification/POWER card.
Provide High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Provide Unofficial copy of high school transcript or G.E.D. composite score.
Provide unofficial copy of college transcript if high school diploma/GED requirements are not met, with a minimum of 16 credit hours and a grade point average of 2.0 out of 4.0.
