About The Position

Broughton Hospital is currently accepting applications for Police Officers. This position provides law enforcement for Broughton Hospital, J. Iverson Developmental Center, North Carolina School for the Deaf, Vocational Rehabilitation Facility and adjoining state properties.

Requirements

  • Must complete all requirements for an NC Probationary Law Enforcement Certification, including completion of Basic Law Enforcement Training, in accordance with the provisions of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission within one year of employment.
  • Must be at least 20 years of age.
  • Possession of a valid NC Driver's License.
  • Selected applicants must be able to pass a State Bureau of Investigation Criminal History Check, and complete and pass BLS/CPR training and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training during orientation.
  • Must be in good standing with the Health Care Personnel Registry and other licensing boards/agencies.

Nice To Haves

  • Individual must have earned a certificate as a law enforcement officer (BLET) and be eligible for certification as a law enforcement officer by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Division.
  • Working knowledge of investigative techniques and case preparation requirements for standard traffic and criminal cases.
  • 5+ years of law enforcement experience and, currently a fulltime law enforcement officer.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol all facilities to ensure the safety of clients, staff, visitors, and property.
  • Enforce motor vehicle laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Follow proper criminal procedures in the investigation of all cases including motor vehicle accidents.
  • Manage crime scenes and follow proper procedures in the handling, collection, documentation, and storage of evidence.
  • Obtain criminal processes, search warrants; prepare incident reports, SBI lab forms, grand jury packets, and other documents that may be required.
  • Appear in court and testify in criminal proceedings.
  • Manage incidents utilizing the Incident Command System.
  • Conduct searches for elopements.
  • Respond to and control situations that involve violent and/or disruptive behaviors exhibited by visitors, staff, and/or clients.
  • Respond to burglar alarms, fire alarms, EMS calls, and other emergency calls within their jurisdiction.
