The Police Officer Trainee attends and successfully completes a State of North Carolina approved Basic Law Enforcement Training Program along with obtaining a passing score on the state certification examination. Successful satisfaction of the requirement for the position of Police Officer Trainee, will result in advancement to Police Officer I. Upon advancement to Police Officer I, the employee will be required to successfully complete a field training program which will allow them to perform entry level protective service law enforcement duties and tasks. An employee in this class is assigned to structured training through a local community college for the purposes of competing Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET). The Basic Law Enforcement Training Program is structured to prepare students with the cognitive and physical skill sets needed to become certified law enforcement officers. It is comprised of classroom training and practical exercises that develop essential core skills while focusing on ethics and professionalism. An employee in this class Performs student trainee duties consistent with the requirements of the state mandated Basic Law Enforcement Program which include but are not limited to academic, physical, and practical training. Additionally, all mandated attendance requirements must be met as defined by the state, applicable community college and or the Town of Wendell. Candidates in this position must all adhere to all individual rules and regulations required by the applicable Community College and the Town of Wendell.
