About The Position

Enforce the laws, rules, and regulations of the country, state, city and the University through the use of professional law enforcement techniques to promote a safe and secure environment for the campus community. This role involves responding to service calls, patrolling the campus community by foot, car, or bicycle to effectively enforce laws and secure buildings and property. It also includes providing non-criminal assistance to members of the campus community while performing all duties and responsibilities of a sworn University Police Officer. Additionally, the role requires investigating alleged violations of criminal codes and University rules, making referrals and arrests to enforce criminal laws, and writing reports, completing logs, and entering data into a computer to record activities and unusual events. Preparing various documents to properly record specific events and activities is also a key part of the position.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid State of Ohio Driver's License with 6 points or less
  • Valid Ohio Peace Officers Certificate
  • Ability to pass psychological exam, polygraph, and a physical agility test
  • Up to 2 years of public safety and security experience
  • High moral and ethical standards
  • Strong communication skills
  • Basic problem-solving techniques
  • Knowledge of laws and law enforcement techniques
  • Ability to learn and use first aid, CPR, AED, firearms, and computers

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of 3 years of law enforcement experience
  • Prior law enforcement experience in Summit County
  • Prior experience policing in an urban or college/university environment
  • Demonstrated interest in community policing and community engagement
  • An associate’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university
