About The Position

This is a full-time position with an evening shift (6pm - 6am) and weekend rotation, subject to change based on departmental needs. The role is within the Public Safety department at Riley Hospital and requires an onsite presence. The Police Officer I is responsible for maintaining a safe healthcare environment through patrols, responding to calls, enforcing regulations, assisting with de-escalation, crime prevention, and incident investigation.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED is required.
  • Requires 0-3 years of relevant experience.
  • Requires current non-restricted Indiana Driver's License.
  • Requires successful completion of Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Tier I or Tier II training within one (1) year after appointment as a police officer.
  • Must be able to obtain NCIC/IDACS certification and access.
  • Must not have convictions for felony, domestic violence or violent misdemeanor offenses.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment background investigation, drug screening and psychological exam.
  • Requires working knowledge of computers and various software programs.
  • Have never had law enforcement officer license denied by final order or revoked.
  • Not currently on suspension or have a voluntary surrender of a law enforcement license currently in effect.

Nice To Haves

  • Achieve understanding of the initial job roles within 3 months.
  • Utilizing time to ensure safety and security within 6 months.
  • Competent in identifying new areas to improve safety and security within 12 months.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts rounding and foot and vehicle patrols in and around properties that are owned, leased or occupied by IU Health.
  • Responds to calls for service.
  • Enforces and assists in the enforcement of IU Health rules, regulations, policies and state statutes.
  • Provides direction and guidance to team members, guests and patients.
  • Assists teams with de-escalating tense, uncertain and emotional situations.
  • Proactively works to prevent crime and safety incidents.
  • Responds to and investigates criminal activity and vehicle crashes as needed.
  • Maintains records and logs and completes written reports as required.
  • Performs physical security screening as required.
  • Creates a safe healthcare environment for team members, patients and guests.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the chain of command.
